Technically, the backup code contains the encrypted version of your account's secret key, along with metadata such as account nicknames and settings. A common point of confusion for users is the distinction between the toast wallet backup code and the 6-word recovery phrase. 6-Word Phrase: This is NOT a BIP-39 seed phrase. It cannot restore your wallet on its own. Because Toast Wallet was non-deterministic, it did not generate addresses from a single seed. Instead, each address added to the wallet was unique, and its details were saved into the toast wallet backup code. If you have the code but forgot the passphrase, select the option to 'Recover Passphrase' using your 6-word recovery phrase.
Once the app is installed, open it and follow the easy steps to set up your wallet. Next stop - creating your 6-digit PIN. It serves as an app privacy guard to stop anyone who obtains your device from checking out your XRP balance. Now, it is time to set your passphrase which will encrypt your wallet. Your passphrase will be used to encrypt your wallet. It should include both upper-case and lower-case letters, numbers and symbols to make it as strong as possible. You will only enter it when you wish to send XRP. It should be long and strong. Not sure how to come up with a good password? You will have to use it every time you will make a transaction, so keep it private and do not share it with anyone.
Now, the most important step - securing your encrypted wallet backup. Without it, you will not be able to add a new account to your wallet, change your password or PIN. To get your backup, go to the “Settings” menu. After you set up the passphrase, you will see a window with six words presented to you. It is very important to write them down and keep them in a safe place, preferably offline. This is a good one. Yes. Since the official app stores no longer host Toast Wallet, users must use the archived web-based version or the GitHub-hosted offline tool. Dříve se používaly MD5 a SHA-1, dnes se doporučuje používat funkci bcrypt, která zahrnuje v sobě kryptografickou sůl a je pomalá (nastavitelný cost). Funkce password_hash si umí sůl sama vygenerovat a vrací ji automaticky jako součást hashe. Při hashování hesel je potřeba k nim přimíchávat tzv. salt, další řetězec unikátní pro každé heslo.
