The Multi-K Plus tray protects eggs better than any other egg tray and ensures that eggs remain absolutely intact in the supply chain and storage.
The PLUS construction reduces dramatically the effect of the vertical load pressure in stacked trays. The improvement in the tray can be clearly seen in the bottom of the interior of each egg cell as four ridges resembling the symbol +. The standard tray range includes the 30 pocket 15½ lbs, UniFutura, 17 lbs, 20 lbs and the 20 pocket 25 lbs trays.
Huhtamaki develops and manufactures various customized three-dimensional protective packaging shapes. Uhtamaki Molded Fiber Technology supplies Leotech® fibre moulding machines, finishing equipment and process technology that is used to produce moulded fibre products. Leotech® equipment is used to produce environmentally friendly packaging, made from recycled paper, for food stuffs such as eggs and fruit, and for industrial products.
Leotech® machines process 1t to 10t of recycled paper per 24 hours, depending on the type of machine. The Leotech® machines supplied by Huhtamaki Molded Fiber Technology BV produce millions of packaging items daily, in more than 30 different countries. Huhtamaki’s new packaging facility employs the company’s Leotech® pulp moulding machinery and process technology.
With a long tradition of selling fresh and cooked colored eggs, Moos-Butzen is the first distributor to start using Futuro egg cartons for their products in June. “Partnering with Huhtamaki was a strategic choice for us,” states Rainer Becker, managing director for Moos-Butzen. “Quality and sustainability are integral to how we operate, and we expect our partners to reflect these values.
The innovation is especially relevant to the German market, where hard-boiled eggs or ‘Bunte Eier’ remain a popular snack and an addition to lunch or dinner, with more than 80 million packs sold yearly. The ECOM® traypack is a straightforwardly designed packaging solution that avoids excessive overpacking, which the company believes will help strengthen the competitive position of egg packers and the retail sector, due to its cost-effective, environmentally friendly qualities.

The ECOM® traypack consists of two hinge-linked trays, each for nine eggs of between 53g and 73g. A small information sticker can be applied on the hinge side. The dimensions are 300mm x 150mm, with a height of 68mm. Full ECOM® traypacks can be securely stacked in transport packs and on shelves, nested if required. This achieves a 16mm height reduction per packaging unit, which means that more packs can be transported and stored.
